Advancing Biomedical Research in The Low-Resource Setting

A nation’s wealth is the most independent factor related to the quantity and quality of its research output. However, the relation is not always straightforward. Many wealthy countries don’t produce the expected research output in comparison to other less fortuned ones. This phenomenon raises attention towards the non-financial factors related to biomedical research and provides opportunity window for advancing biomedical research in countries with low-resource setting.
First, there should be organizational bodies that supervise co-operation and collaboration among research professionals in the same country and their counterparts worldwide. Medical, pharmaceutical, veterinary, nursing and other biological sciences research professionals should have convenient and reality-based organizational infrastructure that helps them to orchestrate their efforts and to get maximum benefit of their already limited resources. For these bodies to be effective and productive, they should be managed and monitored by independent scientific organization.
Second, there is no effective research without meticulous planning. A national research agenda that considers the national needs, priorities and limitations is the cornerstone of research progress particularity with limited financial resources.
Third, there is a tremendous need for creation of reliable and accessible biomedical research databases. Adoption of required technologies and training of managing teams is very cost-effective in the low-resource setting.
Fourth, community integration in the planning and implementation of biomedical research doesn’t only provide positive cultural and social environment but may also provide financial and political support.
Fifth, updated and flexible training programs are of paramount importance to keep the research community aware and prepared for the continuously emerging trends in all fields and aspects of biomedical research.
As a biomedical researcher, what are your ideas ?
